Project: Elevated Living Residence – Botmaskop Fynbos Estate

Location Context:
Located within Botmaskop Fynbos Estate, this site differs from the steeper stands in the development, offering a gentler slope with southerly views towards the Stellenbosch Mountain and a large adjacent public green space. While still positioned on a north-facing incline, the site’s contours fall away primarily along the estate road, offering a more accessible terrain while retaining its scenic value. The location is exposed to seasonal winds and varying levels of sun throughout the year.

Design Approach:
In accordance with the estate’s strict architectural guidelines, the design prioritises integration with the landscape through natural, authentic materials, planted roofs, and terraced forms. Simultaneously, the design responds carefully to solar orientation, wind direction, view corridors, privacy, and circulation.

Design Methodology:
The dwelling is accessed from below, with guest rooms and a garage situated on the lower level. This configuration allows the main living areas and master suite to be elevated on a raised plinth—optimising view lines and preserving visual privacy. Large sliding pocket doors to the north and south enable effective cross ventilation and adaptable sunlight exposure, enhancing environmental comfort throughout the year.
