Project: University Campus Social Nodes
Location Context:
Several neglected service areas across the university campus—formerly occupied by tanks and utilities—had become visually intrusive and underutilised. The university identified these sites for transformation into inviting outdoor spaces that would enhance student interaction and overall campus experience.
Design Approach:
A comprehensive study was conducted to understand how the introduction of a new function would affect both the broader and immediate context. The analysis focused on student movement patterns, sightlines, spatial interest, and the academic and social atmosphere of campus life. The aim was to create accessible, engaging nodes that could positively impact students’ daily routines, serve as places of rest and connection, and evolve into memorable talking points and campus landmarks.
Design Methodology:
We drew inspiration from a variety of successful public spaces, adapting key principles to suit the specific context of the university. Our design sought to elicit a cheerful, playful response—reclaiming overlooked infrastructure as vibrant, social environments full of character and opportunity.
